Thank you for taking a moment to read the year 11 information page, I would like to introduce myself – Ms Tracey Young, as Head of Year 11 and a teacher of Technology. I have been head of this year group throughout their time at Bryn Hafren. The team consists of myself and 6 form tutors:
Miss Hannah Davies (English)
Mr Lewis Green (Music) / Mrs Lauren McCallum (Philosophy & Religion)
Mr James Lawrence (Maths)
Miss Katie Llewellyn (MFL)
Mrs Karen Stapleton (Philosophy & Religion)
Miss Natalie Tucker / Miss Hougham (Art)
Mrs Angie Homer is the Pastoral Support Officer
Year 11 pupils are rewarded for 100% attendance in assemblies each half term. Whole forms are also awarded ‘form of the half term’ linked to their performance in attendance as a group. As a team we promote attendance as this will be the key to our pupils’ success as they approach their final GCSEs. Pupils can also track their own attendance weekly and record this in their tutorial booklets. All pupils are encouraged to achieve 95% attendance or above. You will receive an attendance leaflet and certificate stating your daughter’s current attendance record at the end of every half term.
Praise, recognition and support
The Year 11 team of Form Tutors select two pupils from their forms every half term as the star pupils. Pupils are recognised and selected for their academic effort, attendance and behaviour. The form tutors also choose one pupil who they feel has made significant improvement over the half term period. These pupils receive a small gift of their choice.
Pupils are supported and mentored in the first instance by their form tutor. Additional bespoke support is available through the pastoral support officer and a wealth of outside agencies. Pupils are given further support via their subject teachers and may be individually mentored by senior leaders as appropriate. English and Maths offer a range of support via revision sessions after school and at key times on Saturdays and Sundays as well as through drop down days in school. All subjects will offer revision sessions during lunch periods and or after school.
There is a range of extra-
Pupils are encouraged to contribute to school life through their form and Parliament representatives, who sit on the year council and school council. The year 11 parliament members are encouraged to take the lead and assist in the decision making in school matters for the benefit of all pupils.
We would like to continue to work in close partnership with you in order for your daughter to achieve her potential at GCSE level. Please contact the school if you would like to discuss the information above or any issues that you or your daughter may have at this crucial time.
