Year 10

The Head of Year ensures that the school’s values and standards are promoted and maintained throughout every aspect of the school day.  Additionally the Head of Year monitors the academic progress of each student in Year 10 in order to secure and sustain effective learning and works closely with families to support students. The success of individual pupils in terms of excellent attendance and a positive attitude to learning and inter-form achievements are celebrated through assemblies, rewards and letters sent home.

We currently have 143 pupils in year 10 in 6 forms.  Each form group has a committed form tutor who works hard to develop an ethos of team spirit. Each year group also has their own form room and form notice board. Tutorial periods are used to focus upon mentoring the pupils, supporting the development and enhancement of basic skills, undertaking team challenges for Welsh Baccalaureate and discussion of performance in subject options to further their learning and progression. The form tutors are:

Mrs Clare Calvert (Maths)

Mrs Claire Hughes (Welsh)

Mrs Alex Egan (English)

Miss Lisa Kirker (Information Technology)

Mrs Lucy Magee (Science)

Mrs Laura Oakley (English)

We also have a Pastoral Support Officer, Mrs Angie Homer whose focus is upon the welfare and attendance of each child in the year group. Mrs Homer deals with and resolves any issues that a Year 10 pupil may have during their school day.  She is also the key person in communicating with home.

We are pleased participation in events and activities around school is high by year 10. Pupils have the regular opportunities to participate in:

 Language Ambassadors

 Rotary Youth Speakers

 School Parliament Representatives

Sports team members in the areas of football, badminton, netball, basketball and cross county.

The importance of good attendance in school is clear. We are pleased the attendance percentage of current year 10 is better than previous years. To help us maintain these high standards we ask if all medical appointments, could if at all possible, be made for outside of the school day. If you are at all concerned about matters associated with attendance, please phone and ask to speak to the Attendance Officer and or the Pastoral Support Officer. An update of attendance is sent home to parents half termly.

To support and ensure good standards and progress in lessons parents have two formal opportunities a year to engage with teaching staff. These are the Form Tutor parents’ evenings, held in mid / late November and the subject Parent Evening. If you have any concerns in regard to your daughters’ academic progress, please do not hesitate in contacting the relevant Head of Department and or the Head of Year.

Most importantly, as a school and as a pastoral team, we have your daughter’s best interests at heart. We wish to have positive working relationships with parents and home. Therefore, if you have any concerns, please do not hesitate in contacting us; together we can make progress.
