The Bryn Hafren Careers Coordinator works closely with the Welsh Baccalaureate Department and the PSE Coordinator to ensure that pupils receive appropriate and current advice to support and prepare them for future employment. Pupils at all key stages have opportunities to participate in industry activities, careers fayres, STEM related events, visits to further and higher education establishments and to work based providers. Engaging with alternative agencies supports the pupils in preparation for the world of work. As part of the Welsh Baccalaureate courses pupils engage in a range of enterprise and employment projects and are able to develop their skills in marketing both themselves and a manufactured product.
In KS3 the pupils have the opportunity to engage in a variety of activities which open their eyes to some of the issues they will face as working adults. The ‘Real Game’ supports their learning whilst helping them to manage hypothetical finances, budgeting for a home, car and a desired lifestyle. They also have the chance to research various career ideas which focus on their interests and abilities in readiness for choosing their options at KS4 and KS5.
In KS4 pupils have access to personal interviews to support their application to 6th Form education, apprenticeships or employment. An officer from Career Wales supports this provision and is accessible to pupils who need additional advice.
At KS5 the Careers Coordinator provides a bespoke service for pupils who are in need of work experience for specialist occupations. This enables pupils to make pertinent reference in UCAS applications or during interviews.
